Scott Weingarten, MD, MPH

Dr. Scott Weingarten is Chief Value Officer and Board Member for Vytalize Health. He will also be President of FJM Health Services beginning in April 2022. In addition, Dr. Weingarten is a serial healthcare entrepreneur who has served as the founder and CEO of two industry-leading healthcare companies. He has served as an executive at leading organizations including Cedars-Sinai Health System, Premier, Inc., the Hearst Corporation, and Cerner Corporation.

Dr. Weingarten also serves on the Board of Directors of seven organizations, including Hallmark Health Care Solutions and the Downtown Women’s Center, an organization that feeds and provides housing to homeless women. In addition, he is on the Board of Trustees for the Charles R. Drew University School of Medicine and Science, which is the only Historically Black Medical School west of the Mississippi. And he serves on the Board of the Scottsdale Institute, which includes many of the largest and leading health systems in the United States.

Previously, Dr. Weingarten served as Senior Vice President and Chief Clinical Transformation Officer at Cedars-Sinai Health System. In that capacity he helped lead the transition to value-based care across the health system. At Cedars-Sinai, Dr. Weingarten also received the honors of Alumnus of the Year (voted on by the Cedars-Sinai Medical Staff), the Golden Apple Award (voted on by Cedars-Sinai’s medical interns and residents), and the President’s Award. Dr. Weingarten was a faculty member in the Departments of Medicine at both Cedars-Sinai and the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He was Professor of Medicine at Cedars-Sinai and Clinical Professor of Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.

Prior to that Dr. Weingarten co-founded and served as CEO of Stanson Health, a clinical decision support and analytics company that uses natural language processing and machine learning. Stanson’s technology is used by more than 600 hospitals and 400,000 health care providers in the ambulatory and telehealth setting, automating prior authorization in electronic health records for payers. Dr. Weingarten sold Stanson to Premier, Inc. (NASDAQ:PINC), with a significant return for investors and served as Premier’s Chief Clinical and Innovation Officer following the acquisition.

Dr. Weingarten also co-founded Zynx Health, the leading digital health order set and care plan company, and served as its Chief Executive Officer for 16 years. While there he was the co-inventor of three software patents. He had two successful exits from Zynx Health, first to the Cerner Corporation and later to the Hearst Corporation which created significant returns for investors. He also helped initiate and lead the Hearst Corporation’s health care diversification strategy after Hearst acquired Zynx.

A clinical and business author, Dr. Weingarten has published over 100 papers and book chapters, many on innovative models of health care delivery; and he was a New England Journal of Medicine Catalyst “Thought Leader.” He also participated in a National Center for Health Services Research Fellowship at the RAND/UCLA Center for Health Policy Study. And as a primary care physician at Kaiser Permanente, Dr. Weingarten achieved partnership status.

Dr. Weingarten graduated from UCLA Medical School and completed his internship, residency and fellowship in internal medicine at Cedars-Sinai. He is Board Certified in internal medicine and is a fellow of the American College of Physicians. He also received his Master of Public Health degree from UCLA.
